And, in many ways, they’ve helped you get where you are today: the one others rely on, gets things done, and appears to “have it all together.”

But while others might not see it, those high standards can be stifling—always asking “more” of you, even when you’re running on empty. Your worth feels tied to what you accomplish, your appearance, what you eat or don’t eat, and how available or accommodating you are to others. Rest feels like failure—something you have to earn—and you’re constantly putting everyone else’s needs above your own.

You’ve always had high standards for yourself.

  • Exhausted from constantly calculating what you’ve eaten, how much you’ve moved, and what you’ll “allow” yourself next.

  • Noticing how much headspace thoughts of food, weight, or body image are taking up.

  • Overanalyzing small decisions like they carry massive consequences.

  • Meeting every external expectation, but still feeling like you're falling short.

  • Moving into a new phase of life—career, relationship, identity—and realizing you don’t know who you are without the old version of yourself.

Maybe you’re here because you are…

You’re ready to understand what’s really going on—and why—so you can start doing things differently.

Sonya Sanmateu, therapist in Bucks County, offering online therapy for eating disorders, body image, and anxiety.

I’m Sonya.

I help my clients understand the role & function of their disordered eating, anxiety, and self-criticism.

Women often come to me with a desire to go deeper: wanting more than quick fixes or symptom management. They’re curious about the underlying patterns shaping their relationships with their bodies, food, and the people closest to them. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, get curious, and make sense of the things you’ve never been able to put into words.

Working together is equal parts insight-driven and grounded in real life. Because it’s one thing to “know” something—it’s another to do something about it, right? I pair emotional insight with practical skills & steady, unwavering support, so you can uncover what’s happening beneath the surface and begin making small, sustainable changes that actually make a difference in your day-to-day.

Specializing in…

  • When you’re caught in cycles of restriction, over-exercise, binging, or purging, it can feel like you’re doing everything you can to regain control—but nothing seems to work. I’ll help you understand what’s driving your Eating Disorder and guide you toward developing healthier ways to meet those needs.

  • There’s a constant hum of anxiety—hard to name, always present—and patterns of perfectionism or people-pleasing that feel ingrained in how you move through life. I’m here to help you connect the dots between your emotions, past experiences, and internal expectations so you can live a life of more ease & self-compassion.

  • As much as you hate the grip food and your body have on your life, loosening it can often feel impossible. Together, we’ll explore what’s made that hold feel so tight—and begin to build a more peaceful, compassionate relationship with food, your body, and yourself.
